The new essential camera for your productions - The Ministry of Broadcasting #69

Hi Reader,

Just a few years ago, talking about drones in professional broadcasting operations was not accepted.

There were many concerns about safety, reliability, quality, and even the age of the operators.

However, when you see clips like the following, you understand that a drone shot is now crucial to make your shows look better.

This clip is from Paul Short, a drone pilot out of New Zealand who is based now in Atlanta, USA.

You look at his reel and the shots are amazing.

But he is not the only one.

Look at this clip from Jake Butters from We Fly Aerial Media:

They have been shooting around the world, even in a cruise ship from Europe to the USA. Just look at their reel as well.

I cannot forget about Beverly Hills Aerials. This company is full of talented crew and they show it every week at the biggest events like the USFL games, Nascar, Super Bowl or the MLB World Series.

But this doesn’t only happen in the USA,

I have worked with the talented David Galaviz out Monterrey Mexico and the quality of his shots matches the ones that I have seen in many other places.

I am sure that in your city or country, there is a kid that started playing with a drone and now has steady business out of this "hobby".

Remember, just a few years ago drones were only an idea and there were more doubts than realities.

Now, they are part of any great show and I would say that they are standard if you want to enhance your productions.

I leave you with a question that I ask myself daily?

What is one technology development that is not ready yet but has the chance to become a key element in broadcasting, just like the drones have done it.

It takes 2.5 minutes to read. Hi Reader, I won’t be available from next Friday June 14th on and until mid-July. 2 of the biggest football tournaments will kick off almost at the same time and I will be busy watching all games. The UEFA Euro will take place in Germany, and the Conmebol Copa America will happen in the USA. To me, this is one of the best times for learning. It is like an intensive football production course. These 2 massive competitions will not only feature some of the stars on...

It takes 2.5 minutes to read. Hi Reader, “Hi Oscar: Would you have interest in this production guide from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, happy to send it to you”. This message was the beginning for one of the nicest experiences I’ve had since I started writing on LinkedIn. It came from Stuart Katz, a talented veteran of our industry who reach out with this invaluable offer. Of course, I said yes right away. I was curious to put my hands in this guide from one of the most memorable events in...

Read by those who cannot find the wifi information in the truck. Finding a job as a freelancer in broadcasting is an attention game. You need to let others know that you are available, but most important you need to be better at promoting yourself than hundreds that are looking for the same gig. I found a great example with the coolest freelancer right now. Check the video below. Again, your personality might not be Pete's and that is okay. Just make sure that you find other ways to promote...
