Decades ago, our shop provided gear to a west coast production. Working with the programmer we came up with the system design.
Day one, reviewing drawings with the house team: They say, well we want to do it like x. I breathed, thought through their plan, made a couple of suggestions, we made the changes.
A day or so later - one of the house crew commented: Why were yiu so relaxed about it? We all have different approaches.
Once you start teaching / mentoring, you learn to shed your ego.
You probably made the running orders I have come to love at Concacaf! I always ask for them so I know the exact times of a live production. It has helped me in other games where I have asked for them. For example, US Soccer's running orders are very different. I was ready when my time came for pxp. Teamwork is knowing what the producer wants to execute and join him or her in that execution. Love the sunscreen note. So important. Do it. I would add hydration with electrolytes:)
Some yes, some where build for others in the team. In the end what we want is to speak the same language and follow the same timeline. Pure Motive for the win.
Nothing more satisfying than a good spreadsheet...;-)
Exactly! That is what I feel when I build them (double points if people use them!).
Indeed...😂
Great read...
YES to proper documentation and using a platform where everyone has access to it.
The most important consideration? Is everyone reviewing the documents?
I'll create a G-Drive for shows and find not everyone reviews documents.
With multi-tab documents- KISS. Have a user review to make sure they are readable
Barry,
I cannot agree more with you.
However, have you noticed it that people start feeling FOMO when they realized they did not access the documents and everybody else did?
In my of live events space - depends on the role. As a tech manager/ EIC, I end up making things work instead of saying this is how it should be done.
That is leading by example, Barry.

Ego is the enemy, as the book from Ryan Holiday is titled.

Oh, a proper production schedule? Gold!
