Hi all,
This week, I received an email from a former subscriber of the newsletter saying that he unsubscribed from the newsletter because I’m pro AI. You can see it below, in the screenshot of the email that I received from him.
Nice of him to reply to my email asking why he was unsubscribing. And that was probably something that I was not expecting.
Let me take a step back. In any newsletter, you have unsubscribes every week that you send an email. And I have an automatic process: every time that somebody unsubscribes, I prepare an email asking this person why she or he unsubscribed.
Because I want to know what the reason is. Is it because the content is not good? Is it because I wrote something that doesn’t align with them? Or is it just because the system is identifying it as spam?
So I followed the same process with this person, sent the email asking why he unsubscribed, and he replied with the story that I told you: he feels that I am super pro AI. And the truth is that it is true.
I admit it
I admit it, but not in the sense that people might think. I am pro AI because I think we need to know our enemies better than our friends.
Let me put it this way, because many people are thinking: “I’m scared about AI.” Because of everything that they are hearing, that it is taking over jobs, and that AI is getting people kicked out of the positions that they have had for ages.
I definitely don’t support that. I wish it were not the truth. However, it’s the truth that we are facing.
There is no going back
And I’m super pro AI in the sense that I know we’re not going to stop this. There is no going back. I know that there will be automation for many, many of the processes that we do currently.
From a camera operator to a director, to audio operators, many things are going to be automated.
But the reason why I’m pro AI is because I think it is my obligation, my duty, for me and for you who have made the decision of subscribing to this newsletter, to tell you that you have to start preparing. That you have to get to know what AI is doing or can do for you, how you can take advantage of AI in your current job, and how you can be prepared for whatever scenario your job is going to be in the future.
And that future, unfortunately, is not very far away. I’m not talking about decades. I’m talking about years, in the best case scenario, for some of our tasks or some of our jobs to be fully embraced by AI or, in some cases, fully executed by AI.
Two reasons
So, I’m telling you this because I don’t want you to leave. I don’t want you to unsubscribe. But I have 2 reasons to do this.
One is to make sure that I am being honest with you and clearly state my position. Yes, I’m pro AI. I cannot hide. I cannot tell you: “Oh no, I’m not using AI at all.” I am pro AI.
The number 2 reason why I’m telling you this today is to tell you why. I’m pro trying to automate things and to be up to date with technology. I’m trying to facilitate my life, see how I can learn to do new things, acquire new skills, and be on top of what is happening in my business and in my profession.
I hope you stay
So I hope you stay. I hope you keep reading this newsletter.
And if you have questions about why I am pro AI, what I’m using and what I am seeing in the business: I wrote a couple of things about AI in the last editions. Actually, 2 editions ago I did one full AI deep dive with some examples of what I was using. TMB #176 “Nobody Has the Crystal Ball”
But there are many more things, and I’m happy to reply to you or walk you through whatever I’m doing, or whatever I’m seeing.
Anyway, I wanted to tell you the story because it was funny, and shocking, something that I had never thought about. I didn’t think that people could see my approach to AI negatively, but it makes sense. And I respect them, and I respect you.
So let me know. Reply and tell me if there’s anything that you would like to see more of, or how you would like to see my approach to AI.
Talk to you next week.
Oscar S.
